Two people drowned at the Denison Dam spillway on Lake Texoma over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Denison Fire Rescue reported that the first incident occurred on Thursday around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, witnesses were performing CPR on an 18-year-old man. Crews continued CPR until the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While on the scene, crews encountered a 23-year-old woman who was alert and taken to a local hospital for a near drowning.
On Saturday afternoon around 4:00, crews were called back to the spillway for another potential drowning. A Denison Fire Rescue Dive Team, Texas Game Wardens, Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Army Corps Rangers worked to recover the victim, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Denison Fire Rescue is discouraging anyone from swimming at the spillway below the Denison Dam.
