Former Kilgore ISD Choir Director Sentenced to 10 Years For Improper Relationship With Student

In a Gregg County Courtroom, Philip Nix, a former Kilgore ISD choir director pleaded guilty to charges that he had an improper relationship with a student.  

Nix was arrested in Seymour, Texas, on July 25, 2022.  According to the school district, Nix worked as choir director from 2018 until he tendered his resignation in May 2021.  

Officers arrested Nix after the Kilgore Police Department started investigating him based on information received from Kilgore ISD.  He was initially charged with sexually assaulting a minor and having an improper relationship with a student.

On Monday, July 1, 2024, Nix was sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
