Stolen Vehicle Out of Franklin County Recovered in Winnsboro, Suspect Arrested

On June 24, 2024, at approximately 5:24 PM, the Winnsboro Police Department received a notification from a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy regarding a believed stolen vehicle. The vehicle had passed a stationary Flock license plate reader and was traveling southbound on State Highway 37, approaching the city limits.

Officer Jamison Beck responded to the area and located the vehicle in the 700 block of South Main Street. Officer Beck initiated a traffic stop and conducted a felony takedown of the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Chief Brown and Sergeant Bassham also responded to the location to assist.

Once the driver was detained, the vehicle was confirmed to be reported stolen out of the Rains County Sheriff's Office. The driver, Leland Chong, was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and transported to the Wood County Jail.
