Kilgore Fatal Shooting Ends After SWAT Negotiation, Suspect in Custody

Shortly after midnight on June 23rd, the Kilgore Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at Thompson and Myrtle streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered one deceased male and another injured male, who was airlifted to Tyler for medical treatment. Concerned that the suspect might still be nearby, the Northeast Texas Regional SWAT team was called in to secure the scene.

After initial investigations, detectives determined that the suspect had fled to another residence in the northern part of the city. Negotiations ensued, and eventually, with the help of a family member, the suspect surrendered peacefully to authorities. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Kilgore Police Department for questioning.

Authorities emphasized that there is no longer a threat to the public related to this incident. Detectives and crime scene personnel remain on-site to secure the area as the investigation continues.

Kilgore Police expressed gratitude to Gregg County Sheriff’s Deputies and Kilgore Rescue for their assistance during the operation. They also extended their condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
