Paris Police Arrest Two After Shots Fired from Moving Vehicle

Christopher Cordova Veliz and Jose Alberto Montalvan

A Paris Police officer, responding to a call on Sunday in the 2500 block of N. Main St., witnessed a vehicle firing a gun while heading west on Loop 286. The officer pursued the vehicle and stopped it in the 500 block of NW Loop 286.

Holding the suspects at gunpoint until backup arrived, officers detained four individuals, including Jose Alberto Montalvan, 24, who claimed to speak English but initially refused to identify himself.

Inside the vehicle, police found a handgun belonging to Montalvan, who was driving despite a suspended license from Arkansas and had outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Montalvan was charged with Failure to Identify as a Fugitive from Justice, while Christopher Cordova Veliz, 22, confessed to being the shooter and was charged with Deadly Conduct by Discharging a Weapon.

The other two occupants were released, and the police had the suspects' vehicle towed.
