Camp County First Responders Conduct Search for Missing Woman

On Sunday night, June 16, Camp County First Responders united in a cooperative effort to search for a missing 21-year-old woman from Longview. Sheriff’s Deputies Dustin Swann and Samantha Sellers responded to an initial report from a cell phone tracking app suggesting the missing woman might be in Camp County. The report was initiated by a family member who had received a call from the woman, indicating she might have medical needs and physical injuries.

Sheriff John Cortelyou and Chief Deputy Thomas Cravey joined the search area. The search expanded with the help of the Pittsburg Fire Department, Thunderbird Volunteer Fire Department, Camp County EMS, and the Camp County Constable.

Chief Deputy Cravey launched an investigation to establish a timeline and identify involved parties. Interviews with the missing woman's mother and several friends cast doubt on her presence in Camp County.

After more than three hours without success, the search was reduced to on-duty personnel. Shortly thereafter, the woman’s phone was pinged outside of Camp County. Her mother informed the Camp County Sheriff’s Office that her daughter had called and was en route home. The case was referred back to authorities in Longview.

“I want to thank all the individuals and agencies that assisted, including the affected businesses and individuals in the search area,” said Sheriff Cortelyou.
