On Sunday, June 16, 2024, Hunt County Deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle on FM 751. The rider, identified as Shawn Boggus, a 21-year-old from Garland, Texas, refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit.
The chase continued into Kaufman County, with DPS helicopter 101 providing aerial support. During the pursuit, officers observed Boggus eating something from his pocket. He then began performing stunts on the bike, including riding without hands and recording the pursuing officers with his cell phone.
Boggus entered Highway 80 from Terrell, continued onto I-635 South, and then onto Highway 175. He then turned around and headed eastbound on Interstate 20 before finally turning back westbound.
The pursuit reached the area of I-20 and Highway 175, where Boggus attempted to take a corner but laid the bike on its side. Officers swiftly moved in and apprehended Boggus as he tried to upright the motorcycle.
Shawn Michael Boggus was booked into the Hunt County Detention Center after being medically cleared. He faces charges of:
- Evading arrest with a vehicle
- No driver's license
- Failure to maintain financial responsibility
- Wrong fictitious altered license plate
- Defective equipment
His bond has been set at $40,000.
