Hit-and-Run Incident Leads to Fatal Shooting in Longview

On June 16, 2024, at approximately 12:38 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run crash at George Richey and Fenton Road. Upon arrival, officers found one person trapped in an SUV while the driver of the other vehicle had fled the scene on foot, according to witnesses.

About 20 minutes later, a call was received by the police department regarding a criminal trespass in the 3600 block of Stracener. The reporting party informed police that a man had attempted to enter his house but fled when confronted by the resident, who was armed with a firearm. Officers were dispatched to investigate while others remained at the crash scene.

Minutes later, a resident from the 3600 block of Clemens Road contacted the police to report that a person had entered the home and was subsequently shot by the resident. Officers arrived and administered life-saving measures on the injured male, identified as 23-year-old Johan Nino of Longview. Nino was transported by Longview Fire EMS but later died from his injuries.

Authorities believe Nino was the driver who fled the initial crash scene and then attempted to enter several homes before being shot on Clemens Road. The police department continues to investigate the incident, and no criminal charges are being filed against anyone else at this time.
