On May 3, 2024, at 1:06 am, the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call on FM 269 south off of I-30. Communications told officers on rute that a female was yelling for help over the phone. Additional information was provided to officers that there was a male in the residence attempting to stab people.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 69-year-old Jimmy Holmes inside the residence, specifically inside one of the bedrooms. Witnesses at the scene identified as 49-year-old Brandon Keith Murray as the suspect.
Murray had exited the home after killing Holmes, but was found by deputies at a residence nearby.
Following an investigation by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers, Murray was arrested and charged with murder.
Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 am.
Murray is currently being held in Hopkins County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
