Greenville High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) orienteering team made an impressive debut at the National NJROTC Championships held in South Carolina from March 15 to 17. Despite being newcomers to the national stage, the team showcased remarkable talent and determination.
Among the standout performers were Aaron Velazquez and Aiden Attlee, who achieved commendable individual rankings. Velazquez secured the 31st position, while Attlee claimed the 57th spot out of a pool of over 500 competitors. Their accomplishments are particularly noteworthy given the team's recent entry into competitive orienteering.
Although the team's overall standings were 28th out of 34 for Varsity and 30th out of 36 for Junior Varsity, their performance reflects their dedication and rapid progress. Representing Area 19 based on their success in previous competitions, Greenville High School's NJROTC team has laid a strong foundation for future endeavors.
"We could not be prouder of the team's accomplishments," said GHS Senior Naval Science Instructor Larry Wilcock. "We are eager to build on this success and continue improving in the upcoming seasons."
In addition to their national competition, the GHS NJROTC unit recently showcased their academic and athletic skills at the Trailblazer Brain & Brawn Challenge in Frisco, TX. Furthermore, they had the honor of presenting the colors for a ceremonial event held by the John Cavet Chapter of the Daughters of 1812, paying tribute to veterans and citizens of the Republic of Texas. The ceremony commemorated the grave of a War of 1812 veteran and seven citizens of the Republic of Texas, reflecting the team's commitment to service and honor.
