The Greenville Independent School District Board of Trustees announced Dr. Joe Lopez as the sole finalist for the Superintendent of Schools position. During a called meeting on Tuesday, March 5, the board unanimously voted 7-0 in favor of Dr. Lopez's candidacy.
Dr. Lopez currently serves as the Superintendent of Kermit ISD and brings over twenty years of experience in educational leadership, including nine years as a superintendent. His selection follows a thorough search process that involved input from stakeholders across the district.
With a focus on student success and innovation, Dr. Lopez has earned recognition as one of the top educators in Texas. In 2023, he was honored among the Top 5 Finalists for Superintendent of the Year in the state.
The Board of Trustees expressed confidence in Dr. Lopez's ability to lead Greenville ISD to continued excellence. Following a 21-day waiting period, Dr. Lopez is expected to be officially appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools.
