Texas A&M University-Commerce Football to Play San Diego State in 2024, Florida State in 2025

Texas A&M University-Commerce is set to face two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents in the upcoming football seasons, as announced on Tuesday. The Lions will kick off the 2024 season against San Diego State at Snapdragon Stadium on August 31, 2024, and will play against Florida State in Tallahassee on September 6, 2025.

Director of Athletics Jim Curry expressed excitement about the addition of San Diego State and Florida State to the future football schedules. Curry acknowledged Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego as one of the newest venues in college football and highlighted Doak Campbell Stadium at Florida State as one of the most iconic venues in the sport.

The Lions' 2024 season opener against San Diego State coincides with the Aztecs' first game of the season. This marks the second consecutive season in which Lion Football begins on the last day of August and the third-ever game against an FBS opponent. Last season, A&M-Commerce narrowly missed a victory against Old Dominion.

San Diego State, a member of the Mountain West conference, will be led by first-year coach Sean Lewis, who previously served as the offensive coordinator at Colorado and had a head coaching stint at Kent State. The Aztecs finished the previous season with a 4-8 record.

In 2025, the Lions will face Florida State in Tallahassee at Doak Campbell Stadium, marking the first scheduled meeting for A&M-Commerce against an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent in any sport. The Seminoles, currently undefeated at 13-0 during the 2023 season, are set to play Georgia in the Orange Bowl on December 30.

The full 2024 schedule for A&M-Commerce is expected to be released soon. As the Lions look forward to National Signing Day, they are set to announce the first batch of their 2024 recruiting class.

The upcoming games against San Diego State and Florida State continue A&M-Commerce's trend of facing FBS opponents in the Division I era. In 2023, the Lions played at Old Dominion, narrowly losing with a final score of 10-9.
