The Texarkana Police Department responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of College Drive around 1:30 am on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 25-year-old woman inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. The victim, seeking assistance, had fled to a neighbor's apartment after being shot by her boyfriend, identified as Kavante Wright, in a separate unit. The injured woman was subsequently transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

Lt. Jeremy Courtney, en route to the initial call, observed a man entering a vehicle that had stopped on College Drive. Courtney conducted a stop on St. Michael Drive and identified the passenger as Kavante Wright. Additional officers arrived at the scene, and despite initial resistance, Wright was taken into custody. During the arrest, officers observed a pistol on the floorboard beneath Wright's feet.

Kavante Wright has been booked into the Bi-State Jail, facing charges of Aggravated Assault causing Serious Bodily Injury and Resisting Arrest. His bond has been set at $120,000.
