Louisiana Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal 2023 Panola County Wreck

James Hayden Blythe

A Louisiana man is in custody facing charges related to a 2023 vehicle crash in Panola County that resulted in the deaths of a teenager and an adult.

James Hayden Blythe, 30, was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. The charges stem from a crash that occurred on US 79.

According to the crash report, Blythe was driving south on US 79 in the left lane. Brittany Davis, 34, of Katy, was traveling north in the left lane with 16-year-old Lexus Powell as her passenger. The report indicated that Blythe was "fatigued" and his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Davis crossed the median into the southbound lane at the same time Blythe corrected his course. The two vehicles collided, becoming airborne before landing in the southbound lanes.

Neither Brittany Davis nor Lexus Powell survived the injuries they sustained in the crash. Blythe was reportedly uninjured.

Blythe was arrested on a grand jury indictment and has been booked into the Panola County Jail. His bond is set at a total of $10,000.
