Three Pursuits, Three Arrests in Greenville on Thursday Night

Caleb James Nichols, Curtis Lee Byers and Christian Hector Vasquez

Greenville Police were involved in a series of foot chases Thursday night that resulted in the arrests of three individuals in separate incidents, including one man wanted as a fugitive out of South Dakota.

At 9:23 p.m., officers arrested Caleb James Nichols, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for Public Intoxication. Nichols attempted to flee on foot but was tackled by officers after a struggle. He initially provided false information about his identity but was eventually positively identified. Authorities discovered he was a wanted fugitive from South Dakota.

Around 11:20 p.m., officers encountered Curtis Lee Byers, of Greenville, who also attempted to flee on foot as officers approached him for suspected Public Intoxication. After a short chase, he was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication and Evading Arrest Detention.

Just before midnight, a Greenville officer initiated a traffic stop for a violation. The driver refused to stop, leading the officer to follow the vehicle while issuing verbal commands. During the pursuit, the driver was observed throwing something from the window. When the vehicle finally stopped, the driver was identified as Christian Hector Vasquez, of Trinity, Texas. Vasquez showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on multiple charges:

  • Driving While Intoxicated

  • Open Alcoholic Container

  • Fleeing from a Police Officer

  • Tampering with Physical Evidence

His bond has been set at $34,500.
