A traffic stop conducted by a member of the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Team on Monday, April 21, 2025, resulted in the arrest of a Van, TX man for suspected heroin possession.
The Deputy initiated the stop after observing a vehicle committing multiple moving violations. During questioning, the driver, identified as Cedric Thompson, admitted to having heroin in the vehicle. A K9 unit from Wills Point PD was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of narcotics, leading to a vehicle search. Suspected heroin was subsequently located.
Thompson was arrested and booked into the Van Zandt County Detention Center on a second-degree felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (POSS CS PG 1 >=4G<200G).
Sheriff Bridger emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Criminal Interdiction Team and their collaboration with partner agencies to combat the flow of illegal narcotics in the county, stating their daily work aims to make Van Zandt County a safer place. The investigation remains active.
