Texarkana Federal Inmate Gets More Prison Time for Meth Conspiracy

Jimmy Barrientos, 38, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Texarkana, has been sentenced to an additional 100 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine within the prison. Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr. for the Eastern District of Texas announced the sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder, III, on April 15, 2025.

Court information revealed that Barrientos instructed Catherine Gamez to bring methamphetamine with her during a prison visitation. On September 25, 2022, Gamez brought approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a condom into FCI Texarkana during a visit with Barrientos. Gamez hid the condom in a soap dispenser in the visitation room restroom. Prison personnel discovered the contraband and turned it over to federal law enforcement. Gamez pleaded guilty to the same offense in 2024 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

The FBI’s Texarkana Field Office investigated this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney James Noble prosecuted it.
