Two individuals have been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Grimes County this week for unrelated incidents involving drug trafficking and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
Star Freeland Sentenced for Cocaine Trafficking
Star Freeland received a 15-year prison sentence on April 9, 2025, following a sentencing hearing before 506th District Judge Gary Chaney. Freeland had pleaded guilty in August 2024 to Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance. The charge stemmed from a December 26, 2022 traffic stop on SH 6 near Navasota conducted by Deputy Zackry Pavlock, where Freeland, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be concealing over a pound of cocaine on her person. Assistant District Attorney Meagan Ghormley represented the State in the sentencing hearing. Despite having no prior criminal history, Judge Chaney imposed the 15-year sentence after hearing testimony.
Nathan Boggs Gets 15 Years for Aggravated Assault on Constable
In a separate case, Nathan Boggs was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Monday, April 14, 2025, after pleading guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The plea was made before 12th District Judge David Moorman. The charge arose from an August 19, 2024 traffic stop on FM 1696 near Iola conducted by Constable James Ellis for speeding. During the stop, Boggs allegedly pointed a pistol at Constable Ellis and told him to "back up" before fleeing in his vehicle. A high-speed pursuit ensued, and Boggs was apprehended and also charged with Evading in a Vehicle. Assistant District Attorney Tammy Thomas handled the plea agreement for the State.
Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender commented on both sentencings, stating, "Both Freeland and Boggs got appropriate prison sentences for the crimes they committed. In Grimes County, defendants who choose to traffic narcotics or threaten a police officer with a deadly weapon, can expect prison offers from our office."
