Repeat Offender Sentenced to 15 Years for Assaulting Pregnant Partner and Firearm Possession in Brazos County

Christopher Sanchez of College Station was sentenced to 15 years in prison on April 9, 2025, after pleading guilty to multiple felonies, including Assault of a Pregnant Person and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

The assault occurred on July 31, 2023, when College Station Police Department officers responded to a report at the Southgate Village Apartments. The victim, who had a child with Sanchez and was pregnant at the time, told police that Sanchez accused her of infidelity and questioned the paternity of their toddler. She reported that Sanchez grabbed her by the neck, dragged her off a couch by her ankles, and stomped on her before leaving with the child. Police located Sanchez and the child at his mother's apartment within the same complex, and Sanchez was arrested.

The firearm offense dates back to August 15, 2020, when Bryan Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Sanchez due to a strong odor of marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, officers found two Smith & Wesson magazines and a stolen 9 mm Smith & Wesson pistol. Sanchez, who had a prior felony conviction in 2018, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. His previous convictions included a domestic violence related assault, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.

Due to Sanchez's extensive criminal history, the potential sentence for both felony offenses was increased to a maximum of 20 years. He ultimately received a 15-year prison sentence for the two primary charges and was additionally convicted of Assault Family Violence related to a February 2025 arrest.

Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Golden and David Kaldas prosecuted the case, with assistance from Investigator James Woodward and Victim Assistance Coordinator Mandie James. They stated, "This defendant's domestic violence behavior towards family members, coupled with his unlawful possession of firearms, warranted this punishment."
