East Texas A&M Math Teams Excel at State MAA Math Bowl

Two teams representing East Texas A&M University demonstrated their mathematical prowess at the annual meeting of the Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Math Bowl, held on March 28th at Prairie View A&M University.

Competing against teams from universities across the state, the Math Bowl challenged participants with questions covering calculus, math history, and other mathematical topics. Teams were scored based on the speed and accuracy of their responses.

Both East Texas A&M teams, coached by mathematics instructors Rebecca Steward and Adam Bowden, achieved impressive results, finishing in the top 10 out of a field of 25 teams. Team One, comprised of students Jonathan Enright, Nicholas Cox, Xavier Grundler, and Karson Lamar, secured a strong second-place finish. Team Two, consisting of students Star Nouanesengsy, August Doss, Kitty Todd, Sherman Losey, and Jayden Rex, placed seventh overall.

East Texas A&M's Math Bowl teams have a strong history of success at this event, having participated several times since 2012 and achieving first-place overall three times during that period.

Students interested in learning more about the Math Club and upcoming MAA events are encouraged to contact mathematics instructors Adam Bowden or Rebecca Steward.
