A 38-year-old man, Shawn Hasley Moore, has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting on Friday morning, March 28, 2025. The incident occurred after an argument between Moore and the victim, Mitchell Palmer, which witnesses described as "gruesome."
Moore, currently being held on a $1 million bond at the Wood County Jail, was detained at the scene by Hawkins Police before being transferred for further questioning. The victim’s name has not been officially released.
According to the affidavit, Moore’s estranged wife, Morgan Palmer, who had been in a relationship with Moore for six years and shares a son with him, was outside the house when the shooting occurred. She claimed to have called 911 after witnessing the incident.
Moore reportedly told authorities that he fired his handgun after he believed Palmer was coming at him with a small knife. Moore also stated he had his son in his left arm at the time of the shooting. However, witness testimony did not support Moore’s claim that a knife was involved, and no knife was recovered at the scene.
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
