On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspected cockfighting at a residence in the 600 block of Hunt County Road 1006, north of Greenville.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered nearly 100 individuals, many of whom fled upon law enforcement’s arrival. Deputies observed several dead chickens on the property and numerous live chickens, indicating that fights were actively taking place.
The Criminal Investigations Division and the SPCA of Texas were called to assist in the investigation. A search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of fighting pits and cockfighting equipment, including gaffs (sharp blades commonly used in fights). Authorities seized 65 live roosters and 10 dead roosters.
A total of 21 individuals were arrested and transported to the Hunt County Jail, each charged with violating Texas Penal Code 42.105 – Cockfighting.
