Hunt County Deputies Break Up Large Cockfighting Operation, 21 Arrested

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspected cockfighting at a residence in the 600 block of Hunt County Road 1006, north of Greenville.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered nearly 100 individuals, many of whom fled upon law enforcement’s arrival. Deputies observed several dead chickens on the property and numerous live chickens, indicating that fights were actively taking place.

A search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of fighting pits and cockfighting equipment, including gaffs (sharp blades commonly used in fights). Authorities seized 65 live roosters and 10 dead roosters.
