A suspect was fatally shot, and a police K9 was killed following a shooting incident at the Red Roof Inn in McKinney on March 13, 2025.
At approximately 2:44 p.m., McKinney Police officers responded to a reported shooting at the hotel, located at 1300 North Central Expressway. Upon arrival, officers found a 52-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Officers and McKinney Fire Department personnel provided aid before she was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
The male suspect barricaded himself inside his hotel room. SWAT and Crisis Negotiators arrived and made phone contact with him. During negotiations, the suspect threatened to shoot everyone.
Roughly 30 minutes later, the suspect exited his room, shouted aggressively, and walked away from officers. As police deployed a K9 to assist in the arrest, the suspect displayed a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, striking the suspect.
Officers provided medical aid to the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. Police K9 "Azi" was fatally injured during the exchange of gunfire.
