Crockett Police Investigate Murder of 31-Year-Old Woman, Arrest Suspect

Vincent Jamal Thomas

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, officers from the Crockett Police Department responded to a medical call at an apartment in the 100 block of Barnhill Drive around 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Teresa Jasmine Murillo, a Crockett resident, deceased from a single gunshot wound.

Detectives quickly identified a person of interest, Vincent Jamal Thomas, a 36-year-old Crockett resident and Murillo's roommate. Thomas was arrested later that night at around 11 p.m. for Public Intoxication. The following day, Houston County District Court issued two additional charges for probation violations, both with no bond. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office also charged Thomas with Harassment of a Public Servant after he allegedly spat on a jailer.

As the investigation progressed, detectives gathered enough evidence to request an arrest warrant for Thomas on charges of Murder. On Friday, March 14, 2025, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Mike McCreight issued the warrant, setting Thomas’s bail at $1,000,000.

The Crockett Police Department offers its condolences to Murillo's family and thanks the various agencies involved in the investigation. Thomas is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
