Paris Police Present Annual Racial Profiling Report to City Council

Paris Police Chief Richard Salter and Dr. Eric J. Fritsch presented the annual racial profiling report during this week’s city council meeting.

The report, prepared by Dr. Fritsch’s firm, showed Paris Police conducted 4,550 traffic stops. Of those stops, 2,800 involved white motorists, 1,300 involved black motorists, and 450 involved Hispanic/Latino motorists.

According to the report, officers knew the race of the driver they had stopped only 1.1% of the time. The data also showed that white motorists received a verbal warning 69% of the time, Hispanic motorists 68%, and black motorists 59%.

The Paris Police Department reported no complaints alleging racial profiling by its officers.
