Two Arrested in Hopkins County After 500-Gram Meth Seizure During Traffic Stop

Richard Bob Porter and Bryan Keith Ramsey

Two men were arrested Friday night, March 7, 2025, after Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies discovered more than 500 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Corporal Chaney and Deputy Hollon were patrolling in Birthright when they observed Bryan Keith Ramsey outside a tan Chevrolet Tahoe in the Dollar General parking lot. Deputies reported that Ramsey, known from previous investigations, appeared suspicious before entering the vehicle as a passenger.

The Tahoe traveled south on Highway 19 and stopped at a closed business in the 9400 block of the highway, where Ramsey briefly exited, approached the building, and returned to the vehicle. Deputies found the activity unusual, given the location and Ramsey’s prior involvement in investigations.

As the vehicle continued north, deputies initiated a traffic stop in the 4600 block of FM 71 due to a malfunctioning brake light. The driver, Richard Bob Porter, was also familiar to law enforcement from past investigations.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered over 500 grams of methamphetamine. Both Porter and Ramsey were taken into custody and charged with Manufacturing or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group One, Greater than 400 Grams.

Porter and Ramsey were transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center. Details regarding bond and court proceedings have not yet been released.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office continues efforts to combat drug-related crimes and urges the public to report suspicious activity.
