A routine traffic stop in Bastrop County resulted in a major drug bust on March 6, 2025, when deputies seized 367 grams of fentanyl from a Cadillac Escalade traveling westbound on SH-71.
Bastrop County’s K9 Deputy, along with K9 partner Trol, initiated the traffic stop and observed signs of possible narcotics trafficking. K9 Trol conducted a “free air sniff” around the vehicle and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics. A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a yellow "Bic" pen box containing a large quantity of white powder, which later tested positive for fentanyl.
The driver and passenger, identified as a brother and sister who had traveled from Austin to Houston to purchase the drugs, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a first-degree felony. They were transported to the Bastrop County Jail.
Authorities estimate that the amount of fentanyl seized was capable of delivering lethal doses to over 180,000 people, with an approximate street value of $75,000. The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating the distribution of dangerous narcotics within the county.
