U.S. Department of Commerce Announces $10.3 Million Investment in IntelliEPI's Allen Facility

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued a statement following the U.S. Department of Commerce’s announcement of a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT) with Intelligent Epitaxy Technology, Inc. (IntelliEPI), which will award the company up to $10.3 million in direct funding. This investment is expected to create over 50 new jobs in Allen, Texas, and is part of the ongoing effort to restore semiconductor manufacturing in the United States through the CHIPS and Science Act.

Sen. Cornyn emphasized the significance of the investment, stating, “By investing in semiconductor manufacturing, we are helping secure this vulnerable supply chain, boosting our national security and global competitiveness, and creating new jobs for Texans. The chipmaking capabilities these resources will enable at IntelliEPI’s manufacturing facility in Allen will help the U.S. reclaim its leadership role in the critically important semiconductor industry, and I look forward to seeing more Texas-led advancements in the years to come.”

The CHIPS for America Act, authored by Sen. Cornyn, laid the foundation for the funding, which was later included in the CHIPS and Science Act in 2022. This legislation provides $52 billion in financial assistance to strengthen the domestic semiconductor industry, including support for fabrication facilities, research and development, and workforce expansion.

IntelliEPI, based in Allen, Texas, specializes in advanced compound wafer technologies and is a critical supplier for applications such as AI, telecommunications, and defense. The funding will help expand and modernize their manufacturing facility to increase production capacity and support advanced semiconductor applications.

The Texas CHIPS Act, signed into law by Governor Abbott in June 2023, further complements federal efforts to secure Texas’ place as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
