The national nonprofit organization, Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) will donate a home to Marine Lance Corporal Phillip Quintana on January 25, 2025. LCpl Quintana was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. The event will be held at Vansickle Baptist Church, 2181 Co Rd 2246, Greenville, TX 75402 at 10 a.m. (Check-in at 9:30 a.m.) The public is welcome to attend and tour the home after the ceremony.

On September 29, 2005, during his first deployment, Lance Corporal Quintana was serving in Asadabad, Afghanistan, when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED). LCpl Quintana sustained multiple injuries in the blast, including severe damage to his left leg. For ten years, Phil endured over 30 surgeries in an attempt to salvage his left leg. In 2015, doctors amputated his leg to improve his quality of life.

Though his amputation helped his recovery, coping with his injuries for over 15 years has taken a toll on Phil. His current home has narrow hallways and doorways, leading to damage on the walls from his wheelchair. A specially adapted custom home will allow him to easily access every part of the home, giving him the freedom to focus on his family and their future plans. “In this home, we will be able to breathe and give our kids a chance to have a stress-free life in the country,” he says.

LCpl Quintana’s new home features more than 40 major special adaptations such as widened doorways for wheelchair access, a roll-in shower, and kitchen amenities that include pull-down shelving and lowered countertops. The home will also alleviate the mobility and safety issues associated with a traditional home, including navigating a wheelchair through narrow hallways or over thresholds, riding on carpets, or reaching for cabinets that are too high. HFOT will donate the home to LCpl Quintana, thanks to contributions from donors, supporters, and corporate partners.

"It's hard to show my complete gratitude for this miracle; thank you for giving my family and me hope," said LCpl Quintana.
