High-Speed Chase on State Highway 154 Ends with Arrest in Hopkins County

Jose Juan Diosdado

A high-speed pursuit late Friday night, December 20, 2024, ended in the arrest of a driver who fled law enforcement on State Highway 154.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Hopkins County Deputy Foley clocked a black 1993 Toyota MR2 traveling northbound at 92 mph in a 70 mph zone near Sulphur Springs. Deputy Foley activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. Initially, the vehicle pulled over, but as the deputy exited his patrol car, the driver sped away.

The pursuit escalated as the vehicle reached speeds exceeding 120 mph, heading southbound on State Highway 154 before reversing direction and fleeing northbound. The chase continued onto County Road 2174 and concluded when the vehicle spun out after turning onto FM 2560 near County Road 2174.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Jose Juan Diosdado, abandoned the car and fled on foot. Hopkins County deputies, with assistance from Sulphur Springs Police, pursued Diosdado and used a taser to subdue him. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Diosdado declined medical attention at the scene. The vehicle, which had California license plates, was towed by Bryant's Towing. The passenger remained in the car and was released without charges.

Diosdado was transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle. No injuries were reported during the incident.
