A driver was arrested on Thursday, November 21st, 2024, after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through Panola County. At 7:19 AM, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office alerted Panola County Dispatch that a Tatum Police Department officer was pursuing a commercial box truck on Highway 149 heading into Panola County.
The truck, which was traveling in the oncoming lanes of traffic, was first spotted by the Tatum officer, who attempted to stop it. Panola County Deputies, along with Precincts 2 & 3 Constables and Texas DPS Troopers, responded to the situation. The truck continued evading officers, heading into the Beckville city limits, and driving recklessly through oncoming traffic.
At 7:25 AM, Precinct 2 Constable LaGrone used his patrol vehicle to strike and disable the truck just before the four-way intersection in Beckville, successfully preventing the driver from entering a nearby school zone.
The driver, 38-year-old Demetris Miller, was arrested and is facing charges of evading arrest and aggravated assault on a peace officer, with additional charges expected from the Tatum Police Department.
