Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit has assisted the Texarkana Police Department in solving the 2014 homicide of Xavier Rollins, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Cameron Cheatham for the murder.
On June 17, 2014, Rollins was found shot to death outside his apartment in the 1000 block of College Drive in Texarkana. Despite numerous witness interviews and DNA testing of evidence collected at the crime scene, the case remained unsolved for nearly a decade. In March 2024, the Texarkana Police Department sought assistance from Attorney General Paxton’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit for further forensic testing.
The Office of the Attorney General collaborated with Texarkana detectives throughout the 2024 investigation, providing resources including expedited forensic testing, assistance in locating and arresting the suspect, and additional investigative support.
Attorney General Paxton established the Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit in 2021 to aid local law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting unsolved cases. In 2023, the unit received a federal grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to help solve cold cases with DNA profiles developed from crime scene evidence that had not been linked to a suspect. The grant allows for no-cost forensic testing for police departments across Texas and funds a full-time investigator to assist agencies with their investigations.
