On Friday, August 30, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Royse City Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 6100 Block of County Road 2597. The call reported that an 18-year-old male had shot himself in the abdomen.
Upon arrival, officers found the subject, identified as Alexander Villegas, conscious. Villegas informed the officers that he was handling a handgun when it accidentally discharged. The officers immediately administered first aid until paramedics and fire personnel arrived to take over medical care.
Villegas was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later passed away.
Alexander Villegas was a student at Royse City High School. The incident remains under investigation by the Royse City Police Department. No further information is available at this time.
