On August 16, 2024, at approximately 5:33 p.m., the Longview Police Department was contacted by a female victim regarding an attack on the Paul Boorman Trail. The victim reported that a Black male approached her from behind, grabbed her, and attempted to cover her mouth. She was able to break free and escape.
The suspect's description was similar to another encounter that occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Officers searched the area for the suspect, and bystanders located a person matching the description. Police detained the man shortly after 7:00 p.m. It was determined that he is the suspect and is in custody for Attempted Kidnapping and Gregg County warrants. The suspect is identified as 27-year-old Jelan DAaron Armond Williams of Kilgore.
The Longview Police will have increased patrols of the city's trail systems.
