Suspect in 2023 Rowlett Triple Shooting Captured in Missouri

On Friday, January 13, 2023, at 9:19 p.m., Rowlett Police officers responded to a shooting at Twin Star Park in Rowlett, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adults and a 14-year-old girl, all from the same family, with gunshot wounds. They were immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. The investigation revealed that the incident was not random but stemmed from a prior school fight involving two juveniles. The suspect in the shooting was identified as a 16-year-old male from Rowlett, Texas.

Apprehension of Shooting Suspect in Riverside, Missouri

On July 22, 2024, at 7:42 p.m., Riverside, Missouri officers were dispatched to investigate a report of an unattended three-year-old child in the street. During their response, officers encountered a black male in the driveway who identified himself as the child’s uncle. The male provided the name "Ken Jones" with a birth date of November 18, 2007. A computer check revealed no record of this name, leading officers to suspect the male was concealing his identity. He was detained and identified using the Fast ID fingerprint device, which revealed him to be the 17-year-old suspect, Kenn’taevien Charvez Butler, wanted for the Rowlett shooting.

The suspect had two felony no-bond warrants: one for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to the triple shooting in Rowlett, Texas in 2023, and another for assaulting a public servant causing bodily injury from the Dallas County Texas Sheriff's Department. He was arrested in Missouri for providing false information and endangering the welfare of a child. The felony warrants were confirmed shortly thereafter, including those from the Rowlett Police Department.

"I extend my heartfelt thanks to our Rowlett first responders and detectives for their swift action in identifying the suspect and issuing the directive to apprehend him. I also want to express our gratitude to our law enforcement partners in Riverside, Missouri, for their invaluable assistance in locating the suspect in their jurisdiction. The Rowlett Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to relentlessly pursue and bring to justice anyone who commits acts of violence in our community."
