Paris City Council to Consider Five Candidates for District Two Seat

The application period to fill the District Two seat on the Paris City Council closed on Friday, June 28, at noon. This followed the resignation of Reginald Hughes from the position in May. During the application period, five candidates submitted their qualifications for consideration.

The candidates vying for the position include Christopher Dux, Mickey Ellis, Leslie Flynn, Kelvin Hicks, and Samantha Hughes. Each applicant will be evaluated based on residency requirements, U.S. citizenship, voter registration status, and age eligibility, as mandated by the Texas Election Code. Convicted felons are prohibited from serving on the City Council under state law.

A special session of the City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m. The council members will convene to discuss and potentially appoint one of the applicants to complete the unexpired term, which ends in May 2026. The meeting aims to finalize the selection process and ensure representation for District Two residents moving forward.
